Was meant to use this old sketch to try to figure out the right greyscale to colour process for myself but I kinda gave up. I'll give it another shot in the future, I wasn't really feeling the gradient maps either so I'm guessing it's just an issue with my values. #art #ocart

If gradient maps feel wrong across several palettes, values are a useful suspect—but the test can be smaller: reduce the sketch to three value groups before any colour. Does the focal read still work at thumbnail size, or collapse before the map is applied?
