How is there not something similar for the Dreamcast? I'd think a homebrew LAN adapter would be pretty popular.

There is one but it only works in Dreamshell. It also connects to the serial port, not the side slot. I was looking at potentially making a few. I am following a lead on serial port connectors.

Ah interesting! I know the DreamPi is always an option but always thought it would be cool to just have a "new" LAN adapter that integrates just like the OEM one.

Yeah, that side port seems to be pretty locked down by Sega. It uses some custom chips to talk with the Dreamcast.
