it is a very strange argument to say that Mass Effect could only possibly be made by Bioware when we just had the world go crazy over Baldur's Gate 3 made by Europeans a few years ago

I think it's more of a timing thing. Demanding EA still make and release a Mass Effect and/or even hoping someone else buys it has come across as "I don't care about the people, just the franchise." Also I think ME might be one of the rarer ones. Big names like Casey gone, but just thinking:

oh yeah the "I need Mass Effect 4 no matter what right away" is the problem, but I'm not sure "nobody can possibly make Mass Effect 4 except for the people left at BioWare in 2026" does not actually seem accurate in response

Yeah definitely not. It's a bit of a silly exercise, because nothing saying that right now, in 2026 (or even at any point in Mass Effect's actual history) that there weren't people that would have made an *even better* Mass Effect.

everyone wants the one that gives them the feeling of the originals again and unless it's actually released they can imagine it'll definitely be that one

Infinite 100% haha. I have a feeling the internal leak was some middle finger stuff in response to studio closure, but it's so easy to take that demo and just project what you imagine (those wonderful feelings) onto it with no way to verify if it'd ever actually deliver on that.

Though I'm also not gonna make a big stink about it putting current ownership in the crosshairs from people at this time either lol.

yeah definitely but also the crimes that made this impossible were committed across the last decade or more

If afterlife is real and there's an all knowing God, I'm asking what the causal indicators that led to this are. I have my thoughts, I think it's easy to entirely blame EA, and am just curious about it all. I suspect it's Quite Complicated™

I think there's a lot of bad decisions in a lot of different places but also EA being there constantly pushing people toward Bad Decisions and making Good Decisions mean less is a huge factor even of the decisions that seemed like they were "only" Bioware

One of the challenges I've had in reflecting is trying to distill what decisions are purely BioWare's, and what decisions were "BioWare's" but because they were navigating a space. Like we named DA2 DA2 instead of Exodus or anything else because it got us more marketing dollars. Big influence.

right and I remember Schreier's article about what went wrong with Andromeda being like "the developers didn't blame Frostbite at all" but also imagine how hard they'd have had to fight if they wanted it to be not-Frostbite
