The biggest target I've ever seen on my books. Texas placed Banned Book Club and Occulted on a state-wide list of illegal "dirty books." Having them in any school could lead to state takeover where the government could shut down the library entirely and convert it into a student detention center.

These aren't "dirty books." They're hopeful stories of young people making their lives and countries better through a passion for reading. I suspect that the reason Mr. Patrick dislikes them is because he doesn't want people to realize that he's acting just like the real historical villains in them.

It's a whole hot mess that is going to cause so much harm. Here's more info, and a link to the full list of 2200 "illegal" books, at @bookriot.bsky.social

What's it take to make a book illegal in Texas schools? There's a handy tagging system. BRUCE means one dude in Florida doesn't like it. RB means they asked ChatGPT and did no further research They added any book on book rating sites, even if, like mine, they're rated 2, which is basically PG.

Being on this list is not a badge of honor. It means our work is being weaponized against schools, teachers and librarians to harm students. To replace libraries and learning with confinement and punishment.

Over on the nazi site, the anti-library demographic doesn't see destruction of schools and libraries as the danger, but rather ME, for posting about it. Ironically, while simultaneously complaining that low engagement on his hate posts must mean Elon is censoring him.

Are they suggesting librarians rape children?

Project 2025 explicitly calls for librarians who make "explicit" books (books that have LGBTQ characters existing or touch on sexuality at all) to be treated as sex offenders.
