It's weird to be a resident of Earth and not to have a rooting interest in the Brazilian rainforest.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

I think it's even simpler than this: one of the top priorities of Bolsonaro is/was forming a close fascist alliance with the United States. That would be bad for us. The rainforest stuff is real too, but it's not even the most immediate threat here.

This weird centrist take is weird for the same reason it's weird for leftists to sit out elections with imperfect candidates. The planet isn't going to hold off on warming until the Democrats finally learn their candidate lesson or whatever.
