it's maddening. and not only this, renewables are now the cheapest form of electricity AND fossil fuels have suffered repeated severe price shocks AND EVs are now price competitive with gas cars

It's kind of crazy how large a swathe of the American intelligentsia have just decided to completely ignore climate change at the exact time when climate change is having serious material impacts on America

The wild part is down here with us poors, this shit seems pretty obvious. We got a cheap, used EV and that does most of our driving. Our gas car is pretty much just for long trips now. If orange menace hadn't cranked up the price of solar with his tariffs we'd be driving for free.

I care deeply about climate change, but it’s good tactics for this election cycle to spend a great deal of time blaming Trump and his cronies for rising bills. If people wanna know how we’d lower their bills, call for renewables, and tons of new housing near jobs and transit.

As a matter of tactics for this election cycle, it makes sense for politicians who care about climate change to run on the message “MAGA raised your bills and I will lower them.” If people ask how, you then have an opening to talk about (among other things) renewables providing the cheapest energy.

Climate goes through these cycles, you get a couple years where it's in vogue, then all the tourists get bored and there's BACKLASH omg and then everyone kinda forgets...but it always comes back around eventually because it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Renewables were cheaper than fossil fuel electricity on energy markets in the middle east 10+ years ago. Literally where the fossil fuels come from could not compete. 20 Nov 2014, Dubai Electricity opened the bids for a 100MW project. Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power bid $59.80/MWh which was entirely Solar

We can have a Manhattan Project to destroy cities, an Apollo Project to scare the Reds, and a Billionaire Pollution Project to build infinite plagiarism, but the nation just cannot survive public investment in an Ado Project to backstop intermittent with sodium batteries and perfect desalinization.

If the Iran war isn’t resolved by the end of Trump’s term, the Democratic administration should just engage in protracted negotiations without opening the Strait of Hormuz, creating worldwide incentives to find alternatives to gulf oil. Then promote EV infrastructure.

It’s the same people who complain about Progressives, and join the Ds who worry about Socialism spoiling their great success at losing. That’s just brilliant that the economics of EVs has now become competitive with noisy smelly polluting gas guzzlers, that put us at the mercy of Gas Pump and Iran.
