Do yourself a favour: if you’ve not read the book Project Hail Mary but you plan to watch the film, don’t watch the trailer. Gives away way too much about the story. So much it would actually ruin the book should you plan to read it. Just trust me, it’s good, if you like sci-fi you should try it.

At the very end when they reveal _that_ part of the story I was like “bro whyyyyyyy come onnnnnnn”

I get the feeling it’ll be similar to the Martian: take a subset of the more visually interesting problems Watney (Grace) has to solve and cut the rest. Keep the broad story arc the same. Quite a big chunk of Weir’s books are science/competence porn that doesn’t translate well to screen.

My big concern is they'll cut back on a lot of the stuff that happens back on Earth. If I were directing it, I'd want to fully wallow in how bad things are, just punch the viewer with the awful things that are still the least awful decision. I don't know if a film starring Ryan Gosling can do that.
