Phenomenally impressed with exe.dev so far. Moved a few of my sites over to it. It’s definitely early, some bumps and blips here and there, but I completely see the vision. Not sponsored but I do have invites for a free month if you wanna try it. Don’t think I get anything for you using them.

Does the base plan offer up to 50 vms on a single 2vCPU/8GB RAM instance? I guess I could spin up something similar on AWS EC2 and do the same thing. Is the selling point here their tooling? It would be much cheaper on a dumb box that you maintain but, maintenance is real and I have kids

The idea is you get resources and those are shared between VMs (except disk, disk isn’t shared in that all VMs access the same disk. But the pool of disk is shared.) You could absolutely get a plain ol VPS cheaper somewhere else.

The benefits for me are the identity stuff (nice to be able to keep things private by default without expending any effort), and also isolation between services. I used to run all my stuff on one VPS and it worried me that one thing getting compromised jeopardises everything else.

I'm starting to get it. Basically you get the isolation you'd get from containers on a single VPS, but without the abject suffering of the [insert cloud provider] CLI/Console, plus a nicer interface on top. It looks great. Straight to the point, I guess?

It’s been serving jsdate.wtf and e-mail.wtf as well as some personal stuff only I use but it helps to have accessible on the web. Will probably slowly move the rest of my stuff over as time allows. I especially love that VMs are private by default and you can share to specific email addresses.

I’ve been intrigued and interested to try exe for awhile. What kind of stuff are you hosting is it all static or do you have databases too?
