I’ve taken to vibe coding little apps for my kids and hosting them at kids.samwho.dev. They love it. They’re all PWAs so they can look like apps on your home screen if you want. My eldest has loved self-scan at Tesco recently so I made a lil’ barcode scanner app for him 😁

Thats nice, but those are wonderful opportunities to code it yourself. Those apps are pretty basic so you shouldnt need an LLM for it. Go show your kids that they deserve the effort YOU put in (by hand) and not an LLM.

I have had good luck with generating instructions to board games or utilities to visualize probability for the kid to help w group games.

All apart from the barcode scanner, and that one could be made to work offline fairly easily.

The decode can stay on-device (BarcodeDetector where the browser has it, or a wasm decoder), so only the product lookup needs signal. Caching the few dozen barcodes he actually scans covers most trips.
