Always back up your data before letting A.I. loose on it

To be fair, before AI, when we tried out destructive commands but didn't use source control or backups of any kind, we just had ourselves to blame for damage. I think everyone lost some work before getting better habits (I did). I'd like it if Claude & friends were clearer that we're in charge.

just ask claude to recreate the files from its memory. it's more efficient

The conclusions are to 1) always use version control and 2) never trust AI coding agents with that kind of power

If I work something like this out myself I always start with a nondestructive version like ls instead of the rename or whatever command to see what the regex or other pattern expands to.

Yeah, I asked an AI for a copy-and-rename bash script the other day and it fucked up the rename regex. HOWEVER - it was a *copy* and rename, not a rename in place. 😈

You’re better off using ‘rm -f *’. The ‘f’ stands for fixable! ;-)
