I am so entirely thrilled to have When the Moon Hits Your Eye as a Thurber Prize for American Humor semi-finalist this year that I find it difficult to form coherent sentences about it, and YET I HAVE, many in fact, over on my site today: whatever.scalzi.com/2026/10/21/w...

We're really loving this book at our house. We've been reading it at bedtime with our 11 year old, but progress is slow because she keeps asking me to reread the Diner scene on Day 4. I might just have to read ahead on my own! Congratulations!

Gonna hit this two ways (Both kidding) 1. Pretty sure that was a documentary. B. Didn't find anything funny about the moon turning into cheese!!! (Moon fanatic or cheese fanatic? You be the judge!)

Okay, so I've read exactly two of these, and I just have to say, of those two, the Scalzi book is CLEARLY [a] far more humorous & [b] much more in the spirit of the actual Thurber oeuvre. (Yes, I've read quite a bit of his stuff; actually.) YMMV, but still.

Congratulations on making the long list. I haven't read When the Moon Hits Your Eye yet, mainly because I get an ear worm of that Dean Martin song every time I read the title, but now I'm going to move it higher up on my reading list.

Also: yay! And no knock on Osman, who I also like, but still confused about this despite going to his Wikipedia page and the award website.
