Science does not respond to personal preferences: it responds to facts, even if they contradict personal preferences. This is why Science is intolerable to autocrats, who insist that they, and they alone, know what's best, no matter what the facts say.

Hmmmmm… the devil is in the details. Science is only valuable to the democratic project if it serves the public good and is completely transparent about its specific ( not universal or objective) point of view.
