Powerful words from @aoc.bsky.social. America does not belong to any one race, religion, or creed. It is big enough for all of us who believe in democracy and in our Constitution and in leaving a future that is better for our kids.

The AI boom draws enormous amounts of power, predominantly provided by gas power plants. Their emissions are driving climate change to become worse than it already is. How can we resolve the huge conflict between keeping our planet safe and moving ahead with this technology?

The new medium is Social Media. It does not rely upon a single authority to adjudicate right from wrong and is the perfect medium for a brazen liar like Trump. He used it to seize the American election and take it over. The rest - bullying, vanity and corruption - come with the man.

Wow. The atmosphere on Twitter, in the absence of the MAGA bots, is amazing. 🤣🤣🤣 I don't know how long it will last, but it's nice to see almost all real people engaging there. Congrats, Ukraine. #USDemocracy #Voices4Victory

I have a question for Bsky climate folks. We're experiencing an intensification of hurricanes/tropical storms. Is there any evidence of intensifying rainstorms? I ask because Vancouver, where I live, experienced a devastating "atmospheric river" in 2021. Can they become even stronger in the future?

Canadian farmers are suffering from climate change, yet they are not participating in climate protests. They're natural allies to the Canadian Climate Movement, but that movement excludes them by virtue of the policies it adopts. Same for Canadian mining companies like Agnico Eagle. Why is that?

The Oct 7 assaults on Isrealis brings demands by Jews to embrace everything they say without question. On the other hand, the massacre of Palestinians is taken by activists as a licence to denounce everything done by Israel. These extremes leave no room for peace. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/n...

This year's El Niño continues its climb into uncharted waters; Niño3.4 region anomalies are now at a 3.4C above normal (how fitting!), higher than any prior El Niño event on record. September monthly Niño3.4 anomalies also set a record at 2.9C (beating 2015 and 1877's 2.75C).

Fishermen along Latin America's Pacific coast are reeling in half-empty nets as ocean warming aggravated by El Nino causes tuna, anchovies and other top catches to migrate to cooler waters. In Panama, small-scale fishermen are struggling with extra fuel and ice costs.

Kimmel to Mamdani: "I live in Los Angeles and that is not the reception our mayor would get"

When I think about AI, I remember how the internet and email were all shiny things at first, until we got spam email. We have an obligation to envision both the good and the bad in any new technology, and mitigate the bad as much as we can.

I have a new piece out in Nature today on the record-breaking 2026/2027 El Niño, what impacts we should expect, and how governments can prepare. The Niño3.4 region is currently running more than 1C hotter than any prior event on record, and we remain months away from the peak www.nature.com/artic...
