Why would a publisher with pride trust their audiobook to someone who understands little & cares less about what they're reading? My current listen is ruined by the reader! Misplaced emphasis; mispronunciations e.g. "ZOOlogy" & "centenARy", & howlers like the Hungarian struggle with "Australia" 🙉

I suspect some actual, normally good, human narrators now may be using ai to correct or infill their readings? I tried Sarah E Bond's great book, Strike, on audio, but had to give it up because every fifth sentence sounded... wrong. Excerpts of the reader's earlier work were lovely, so?

Maybe, but that doesn't explain how Austria became Australia, or indeed how "the wake of the rebellion" became "the wake-up", or "the struggles in which they were engaged" -> "in which they were enraged"...

I named the title because I hope someone else has listened to it and will (politely) tell me I was being too sensitive. Also as a reminder to buy myself a hard copy of the book.

Ahh, brings me back to that warm, spring day in 1993 I was laying by Sloan's Lake in Denver listening to On The Road, and I was subjected to David Carradine pronouncing Berthoud Pass, "Bertood."
