Electric bills are up 11% this year, and shutoffs are spiking across the country. At the same time, corporations are building hundreds of energy-hungry data centers, and working families are being forced to absorb the cost. Higher bills for us, higher profits for them. seiu.co/3M71usW

Any union worth anything would know that they very rarely actually go on strike because it’s very difficult for people to go without paychecks, and often won’t do it without at least having some funds available to help people during the strike.

AI and data centers are essentially a Trojan horse, a scam promising everything but just another way for the rich to get richer on the backs of average citizens

If power was a priority like it should be with this administration, there’s a number of things we could be doing to increase power supply but also lowering the costs & create new jobs. Instead we are doing nutty things like sending money to Argentina & gov shutdowns, & prepping for war in Venezuela.

They are killing themselves, but they don't believe it. We, the people, can only be pushed so far. Campout For Freedom April 20th York Nebraska. If no one can afford electricity, we might as well go camping. I am talking about an exodus 2.0. A national strike. A single camp. We walk away from them

Another reason I went to solar for my power 12 years ago. Once the equipment paid for itself in the first year it's been free energy for 11 years now. Sure I have to replace the batteries every 4 years but the savings alone make it worth it. Installed and maintain the system myself.

Cut up your credit cards and start paying everything with hard cash/checks … it’s much easier to track how much money you are spending and to cut extravagant/unnecessary purchases. Stop buying premade food and eat homemade at home. Downsize if you must.

Data centers just killed my local plant nursery. Meanwhile I can't get a decent grocery store in my community but they just built a fancy 'casino' on a trash pile for *reasons*. Fuck capitalism.

Can't read the article, but am I correct in thinking there is a connection between giant data centers and foisting the cost of building those energy hogs off on average users? And isn't a tech advance about to render those data centers obsolete?

These silent monopolies need to be broken up. Our “co-op” is just that in name, and we are treated like crap when trying to talk with representatives. Our lines are forty years past their best and no plans to upgrade or bury them. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Profits should be put back in.

My electric company, PGE fights people trying to install solar. They make it a difficult process on purpose. Especially commercial solar projects. Why? Because they don’t make as much. They can sell whatever you produce onto the grid but not enough I guess. Then they beg us to save energy. 🙄 over it

📢 ALL AI data centers and other giant commercial users of electricity must be made by law to build their own solar farms, etc. and produce their own electricity. WE shouldn't have to pay THEIR electric bill and also pay their high prices. NO more welfare for billionaires!

Just in time for freezing temperatures too! People are starving and now freezing to death, not because there’s no food or power, but because of corporate greed. People going to die watching greedy fat billionaires swimming in the elements that are would have saved their lives.

SEIU……maybe you should pay more attention to what’s going on. Thanks to the politicians YOU supported, ALL of our costs have skyrocketed and YOU never complained until now. How about an apology at least. SEIU…..YOU built this TRUMP is fixing it. Now either help or get out the way.

Meanwhile in Florida, energy bills just got the biggest hike in history, which has got to hurt way too many people. But, isn't there always a but, Duke Energy has to drop energy bills in March 2026. It's like a special sale, dramatically raise prices then drop to lower level so it looks cheaper.

Unfortunately the cost of energy is not done skyrocketing yet. It’s going up 34% in my state alone. Black stone is well on its way to purchasing PNM for 11.5 Billion. When my 86 year old dad asked who Black stone was, I replied with, “satan”. He just nodded and went about his day.

“In Virginia, which has the highest concentration of data centers in the world” I live in a county in VA that has the highest concentration of data centers & more are getting built everywhere you look. Even my water bill went up 15% last cycle. Electrical bills are consistently ⬆️.

Nationalize all power generation and delivery methods, and tax data centers fairly. Regulate AI, period. This Wild, Wild West approach leads to Westworld.

It’s an indication just how much that first stroke affects your cognition. If he actually did the math and ROI, he’d know alternatives could be the new capitalism solution.

Those energy hungry data centers should pay double or triple rates to mitigate the added expenses residents and non energy sucking businesses to reduce rates for those consumers. IT IS THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS.
