A reminder that the real patriots aren’t the ones tying flags to lampposts or standing around outside 3-star hotels. They’re the ones who get stuck in within their local communities, the volunteer, the football coach, the litter picker and myriad others.

Agreed. I see flags that were tied to lampposts months ago, now torn and ragged. The so called patriots who put them there care nothing for the national flag. The quiet community volunteers are those who make a difference to people and nation.

They look awful, having been battered by wind and rain. I spent quite a bit of time in my childhood in NI and when we went through loyalist communities there were flags and painted curbs. I have a very visceral hatred of that. It’s designed to make people feel like outsiders.

Just on the train to london and was sat next to a table of 4 going to ‘the march’. Them, ‘it's nice though isn’t it when you’re on a march and you can see all the flags. It’s like you belong to something’. This country is ill.

Anyone for whom improving lives is a vocation, not just a 9-5. They can see the world around them and they want to make it a more positive, safer, more connected and happier environment. That’s how you show you love your country.

Great to educate your son (and you) that life can not be presented as binary choices built about using simplistic ideologues, rather individual and complex approaches which makes our lives so interesting. No need to thank me further.

Patriot is the most ridiculously overused word! You can love your country and want it to succeed without plastering it with flags! Sick of this utter boll.cks!

Yeh but ‘ow are they gonna get are cuntry back Or some such bullshit I really wish the flag shaggers would all fall off their respective ladders
