Leaked memo from Amazon that warns existing H1B holders to avoid travel back into the USA after the September 21st deadline - their lawyers evaluated the new executive order as not just affecting new applications

I think the bigger perform here is the uncertainty - nobody knows what happens if an existing H1B holder attempts to re-enter the USA (after a short trip home to see family for example) after tomorrow Will the border agent ask them for a check? How will they know if that person has paid already?

My understanding is that this incentivizes US firms to hire people in their overseas offices (and open more overseas offices) I expect Canadian branches of big tech companies will get a whole lot more immigrant hires over the next few years

This now seems to hit the press too ->

Hey, Simon, I am not up to speed at all with the various Visa restrictions in the US, but I know you have been there for a long time. Are you affected in any way by the shenanigans, to downplay it massively, that this “administration quote have deemed to employ?

Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion. Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.

I'd talk to an immigration lawyer, though I imagine they won't be able to give you a confident answer for a few more days because everything is extremely vaguely defined at the moment
