I asked Travis if I could use this amazing and inspirational composition as the basis for some kinusaiga works. He kindly allowed me to use it, so I selected fabric and created a template to begin interpreting this piece into kinusaiga. (I am slowly learning to use Concepts for template-making.)

My first template I generated using Concepts. There are a few things I need to navigate: 1. Dimensions. The original is a 2:3 image. Most frames do not come in this ratio. 2. Fabric choices. I am currently interested in and obsessed with the seigaiha pattern. Could I use it? 🤔 2a. Photo of Earth.

Most shadowbox frames come in 8:10 ratio, so I thought maybe this would be close enough. For fabrics, I decided to use many different seigaiha patterns together to form a "gradient" of fabric for the planet. The landscape would use all florals. I managed to find photo of Earth in cloth!

I cut a piece of base material at 8x10, assuming that I would find a shadowbox that would fit. (Haha, haha 😅.) In order to fit the 2:3 ratio image, I had to reduce its height, so I trimmed the top and shortened the the planet's exposure. I started trimming and cutting the fabric into the base.

I didn't realize how much time I would spend thinking about where to cut the pieces in the fabric pattern. Also, to keep the seigaiha the same orientation. Only after I finished did I decide I would prefer to reverse the gradient, so the lightest pieces would be to the left and not the right.
