I am planning to vote tomorrow (mail-in voting), so I am going through the candidates' statements of the local school education board. So far, one candidate is a nope for me because he suggests that the district only has problems because they haven't Done The Thing. 🤷

I had a really great discussion with my kinusaiga mentor tonight. We are planning my Travis collage v2, with more detail and accurate ratio, plus the fabric choices for my first TARDIS: SPACE TARDIS! I'll do a few different TARDIS iterations in various colourways, including a rainbow. 😍🏳️‍🌈

(We also talked about how, last week, I had a little shopping spree and bought almost every fabric available on Spoonflower with a TARDIS, to see if I could use it in some landscape kinusaigas I am planning. 😅)

PSA: Don't put craft foam in a bag on its own with other things that could rub or degrade the foam. My denim-covered journal is now covered in foam bits because of it. 😅

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I just saw a FMK of Ossoff, Mamdani, and El-Sayed on Threads and a vast majority would want to marry Mamdani. 😆 The straight men in the comments are *hilarious*. And also want to marry Mamdani.

When I was looking for a matching red, I was surprised how well this red went with the printed red colour. The whitespace around IG/ungfio's artwork is tricky, but I think these work well. The motif is from Clare Bradshaw's 2026 blackwork stitchalong.

I want to do at least one, perhaps up to three of IG/ungfio's cards a week. I also want to explore more than just blackwork. In this case, I was researching various sashiko stitches, to see if any could compliment the cards and thought this might be fun to try out. I like the effect.

(Aside: this first card was embroidered with rayon, which I hadn't worked with before. YUCK! This material is beautifully shiny and this looks almost like silver, but it leaves tiny hairs everywhere and frays like mad and I did not enjoy this experience. Yuck. I think I'll stick to cotton and silk.)

The second card I embroidered was IG/ungfio's four of hearts. I found two shades that matched the green frogs. I found this leaf motif in Lesley Wilkin's Beginner's Guide to Blackwork. Cue becoming obsessed with this pretty leaf motif! I want to do it in autumnal colours now. 😆

Playing cards are great for embroidery practice. They are small and compact, which means they are low commitment in terms of time. It has the vibe of doodling and I want to be able to spend short bursts of time on embroidery without the pressure of completing a large piece.

I embroidered one card first, then reached out to IG/ungfio to see if it would be ok to post my 'doodles' online, showing the card as an example. I told her that if she was uncomfortable, that would be totally fine and I would keep my work private. She was very enthusiastic for me to post them!

I asked Travis if I could use this amazing and inspirational composition as the basis for some kinusaiga works. He kindly allowed me to use it, so I selected fabric and created a template to begin interpreting this piece into kinusaiga. (I am slowly learning to use Concepts for template-making.)

One of the frames I ordered fits the 8x10 piece perfectly! HUZZAH! I don't have to struggle finding the correct frames for 8x10 pieces! This is good, because I plan on doing a number of pieces in 8x10, however, for Travis's piece, I am going to focus on a 6" x 9" base moving forward.

I don't think I can remove the glass in this particular frame. I have to consider whether or not I like my pieces under glass or not in the future. Part of me wants that protection for the pieces, but I also like being able to see the texture and puffiness of the fabric. 🤔

I have been working with a mentor, Hannah, who taught me via an online kinusaiga class last year. She has provided a lot of useful feedback and options. I am sending her photos of this piece and will discuss next week how to improve it, so v2 will be better. 😉🤞

I found an Etsy seller that makes custom sized wooden boxes from reclaimed wood and I am getting three boxes in two different sizes that might be what I need for this project. 🤞

I didn't realize how much time I would spend thinking about where to cut the pieces in the fabric pattern. Also, to keep the seigaiha the same orientation. Only after I finished did I decide I would prefer to reverse the gradient, so the lightest pieces would be to the left and not the right.

I 'completed' the piece on Monday night (still needs framing). I feel I need to make a lot of tweaks, especially to get it back to that 2:3 ratio because the piece is not quite balanced. I would also like to change some of the floral fabric choices too. 🤔 I might go smaller, perhaps 6x9. 🤔

Most shadowbox frames come in 8:10 ratio, so I thought maybe this would be close enough. For fabrics, I decided to use many different seigaiha patterns together to form a "gradient" of fabric for the planet. The landscape would use all florals. I managed to find photo of Earth in cloth!

I cut a piece of base material at 8x10, assuming that I would find a shadowbox that would fit. (Haha, haha 😅.) In order to fit the 2:3 ratio image, I had to reduce its height, so I trimmed the top and shortened the the planet's exposure. I started trimming and cutting the fabric into the base.

My first template I generated using Concepts. There are a few things I need to navigate: 1. Dimensions. The original is a 2:3 image. Most frames do not come in this ratio. 2. Fabric choices. I am currently interested in and obsessed with the seigaiha pattern. Could I use it? 🤔 2a. Photo of Earth.

So, I finished Carrie on Monday night and it was wonderful. However. Rot13: (rot13.com) Vf gurer tbvat gb or n frnfba 2? Gur raqvat sryg yvxr gurer jbhyq or, gung Gurer Ner Ovttre Cynlref Naq Ynetre Fgbevrf Guna Guvf Bar. Abar bs Synaavtna'f bgure frevrf unq guvf fbeg bs raqvat. Vf vg whfg zr?
