I think this will be my last post on this. it's been ~100-200 posts of me replying to people and trying to help out the community at large. It would have been nice if Zach just fucking retweeted this post, could have calmed down so many people and saved me the time But no, misinfo is much more fun

Okay a tiny thread because people are going to freak out: This exploit in particular takes advantage of a special command that renders images (via attribute escape). If you have an overlay that processes images (most don't) then yes, this is your problem. Overlay must explicitly create img DOM.

Like I said on stream, I fucking doubt anyone with a technical background was shown this post ahead of time, despite the claims. We can't cry wolf on everything. I'm sorry for acting jaded but me replying to everyone just gunks up everyone's feeds and I hate it, it makes me feel spammy and dirty.

I love helping people, and I know how upsetting it can be when you hear scary news that seems to directly affect you. You try to look for answers, and usually it has a bunch of people in the comments trying to do the same. Misinformation or incorrect data appears and spreads. Then the PSAs come.

Like don't get me wrong, I'm doing this because I want to help people and I care (way) too much. But man. It doesn't help that the inflammatory post is still there with no corrections or updates. So people keep spreading it.
