My friend @regularitguy.com and I are constantly talking to IT Pros about how AI is changing their jobs. This slide from an Australian bank highlights how AI has changed incident management for them. Yes, I'll actually miss poking around in logs.

It does but also sometimes it doesn’t, because if leads you on a wild goose chase and all the while it’s speaking with extreme confidence. Don’t get me wrong, it can analyse a long log file fast, but in my experience then sometimes gives you 10 wrong things to try. (Caveat: in my limited experience)

The bank has good mitigation for this, aside from human review and approval. An agent scaffolds a test env locally and tests the recommended fix.

How long will it be before the next generation of 'engineer' making the decision no longer has the skills and experience to do that.

Yeah Rick and I have spoken about how important it is for engineers to understand what they are saying yes to, and how we teach the basics of troubleshooting in an AI-assisted world. We owe it to the career starters to stope them bypassing foundational knowledge.
