In 2010 or so I discovered this math rock band Bats, one song on the first album was titled “Andrew Wiles”. I didn’t know a single thing about any stories of Mathematics because that's not what was taught to us in School - the human centered stories. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha6w...

One part in that song gripped me, a shortened version of a quote from Andrew Wiles, and I just loved it: “I describe my life in mathematics as a darkened mansion, I stumble into furniture, seeking the switch, to cast a feeble light on my secret endeavor”.

I was gobsmacked at how great that metaphor was - If I had learned this story in school, I would have LOVED my Math classes!!! I went down a rabbit hole, read about him, watched this BBC documentary on Fermat's Last Theorem and Andrew Wiles life long passion. www.dailymotion.com/video/x223gx8

I highly suggest watching to understand what this all means. This story is what helped me understand how incredible the field is. It gave me respect for people who love their craft, their art, and their life long dedicated effort.
