CSS-Tricks has a new owner! Yes, I've got the keys to the castle, so to speak. And, even after 12 years of working on the site, I'll admit I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous about that. https://css-tricks.com/css-tricks-has-a-new-owner/

Now, this is something Tolkien would have something to say about. What the fuck are we doing here? I'll summarize books and academic papers for you and answer your relationship questions, no clearcutting required. Make them plant a million new trees. Two million.

My first open source release: Tiny Tells! Six small status characters in one <tiny-tell> tag. They're animated like little cartoon characters, so a state change is a reaction, not an icon swap or a spinner. MIT licensed, 14 KB, no dependencies. tinytells.dev
Nightshade/Glaze is not yet widely available because it’s computationally expensive and slow. And my flow is a feature flag. But it could be a way to enable practical actions to those that find AI abhorrent. Right now, there is no choice anywhere. Offering that option in UI can have cascade effects.
There’s research out of Chicago where they’re finding ways to poison the snakes meals - nightshade and glaze - nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu - and I just so fucking love this idea.
I think of the product strategies for allowing people options. We shouldn’t have to be forced to use the snake, and yet… it’s near impossible to avoid. People should have choice. With tidy.events I’m iterating on giving people who host their events an opt-in to Nightshade/Glaze all their images.

In 2010 or so I discovered this math rock band Bats, one song on the first album was titled “Andrew Wiles”. I didn’t know a single thing about any stories of Mathematics because that's not what was taught to us in School - the human centered stories. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha6w...

I was gobsmacked at how great that metaphor was - If I had learned this story in school, I would have LOVED my Math classes!!! I went down a rabbit hole, read about him, watched this BBC documentary on Fermat's Last Theorem and Andrew Wiles life long passion. www.dailymotion.com/video/x223gx8

what a fantastic all-timer thread on this phenomena and the psychology behind it I think about this all the time and not understanding this is the difference between successful liminal horror, and just horrorslop. liminal horror is about the baked-in hostility of public spaces we millenials saw die
