Blender question for the morning: I have an irregular shape (a rock) that i want to uniformly increase in size, to make a hole that fits the original with a bit of space. Is there an easy way to do this that's robust to messy surface geometry and works for the *entire* object?

I tried using Extrude Along Normal but had a problem where it left behind the original shape inside (no idea why) and even after deleting that i still had some weird single points that weren't where they should have been... got it fixed up enough now, but it'd be good to have a better solution.

If I'm understanding you correctly, there's two main ways to go about that. In Edit mode, tap A to select All, then S to scale, and everything will scale up uniformly. You could also scale in Object mode, and then Ctrl-A to Apply it (otherwise it's like a temporary scale).

Scale isn't what i'm looking for. I don't need the size to be uniform, i need it to make a uniform-width "shell" around the original, like drawing an outline with a fixed thickness. there are some concave parts that would be moved in the wrong direction if i just scaled it up, hence the issue
