Steam games jump less and loop more. Of 2022's releases with 10+ reviews, 5.7% had jumping as a mechanic; of 2025's, 3.7%. The double jump fell from 2.2% to 1.3%. Roguelike runs went from 4.8% to 9.2%, idle progress from 1.1% to 3.1%, auto-battle from 1.3% to 2.4%. #steam #gamedev #jump

Roguelike runs nearly doubling while double jump drops to 1.3% fits: loops are cheaper to build than tight platforming feel. Does the data show if loop games hold reviews better?

Checked on releases 2022 to 2025 with 10+ reviews, loop meaning roguelike runs, idle or auto-battle. Against games of the same genre, year and price, roguelike runs score 3 points more positive, idle and auto-battle 4 to 8 points less, jumping games 4 points more. So no, not as a group.

Over time: every group loses about 5 points from the first 3 months to after year one, loop games no differently. What differs is when the reviews arrive. 37% of a loop game’s reviews come after month 6, 46% for other games, 33% for roguelike runs. Loop games get most of their reviews early.
