Aside from the fact that BYD does make larger vehicles, people were actually buying small cars but legacy carmakers don't make enough money off them. Ford sold over 150k Focuses the year before they discontinued it.

What large U.S., Japanese, European, and Korean automakers were able to sell in the U.S. ≠ what BYD could theoretically sell without tariffs and non-tariff technical barriers to trade (US-specific safety regs) today

i think they’ll probably get a factory in the us within 10 years or so there would be controversy of course but i think it’d still happen eventually

We’ve already done enough damage to Mexico City’s air quality with our cultural influence on their transportation policy, it would be unfortunate if they let us do even more by slowing their transition to EVs

Auto market is ready for a turnover. Will be interesting to see how the new ‘free market’ regime handles the free market forces. Sad if it will really be just tariffs instead of making affordable vehicles regardless of energy source.

And now they’ve got that very highway-oriented business district at Santa Fe (and they are not pursuing European-style regional rail solutions for the rail that is being built there and which already exists in the northern suburbs)
