On the left is my favorite version of what I could think of. Even though the glasses don't technically connect on the bottom, I do think it's more readable without it. The darker skin color there can suggest the glasses connect or that it's resting on the nose and I find that cute :)

Also wanted to say that maybe you want the shadow different depending on the character's personality. I would relate lots of shadow to a character with not good intentions. Hope this helps even a little

I saw your comments in reverse order 🤣 but yeah changing the shadow does make a big difference, that's a great call!

Love your librarian! Maybe just leave off the side pieces of the glasses it doesn’t look like they are wrapping around.
