For those interested in making comics: Please do it. Do it now. Your first few comics will suck, but it will get better with the time and energy you put into it.

I've always been inspired by your work, Dee. I just recently started working on my very first short comic about a funny incident I had with my friends. I don't understand anything about good panelling and page layout, but between asking for advice and just feeling it out, it actually looks okay!

Honestly for me it's less "am i good enough" and more "how do i even write this in a way i can draw it?" it's like having 8 doors in front of them and all they tell you is "Well you gotta walk through ONE of them :)"

I've actually drawn quite a few comics back in me day, though my perfectionism really doesn't want me to make more. Bugger has me on an arm's length leash

Yes! You do not need to be making a 400 page story as your first project. Start with ONE comic! One PANEL! One of ANYTHING! Just start small and slowly grow as necessary.

A lot of people's fear starting out is the fear of not being good enough at the start and I will say that making "bad" art is an inevitability for everyone, so you may as well start now and get over that hump because you're using that same amount of time not doing anything.

And if it makes anyone feel any better, despite Rosebuds being in newspapers I still have no idea what I'm doing. I spend at least 3-4 days every week panicking over little things.

Heya good timing with this message. I'm currently working on making more comics. I may not have the skill, but I have enough will to go forward with it not worrying about the details. Although I dare say my first comics that I made so far do not suck actually. Maria isn't the only one with an ego.

And go into it knowing that doing comics is hard work. It's nothing like illustration or random sketching, which themselves are work. Comics are another world entirely and requires far more discipline and motivation. But it is worth it if you can put your back into it.
