The Funny Pages exhibition is a celebration of cartooning. It’s the largest collection of cartoonists and featured art spanning over 100 years of works from those with ties to Indiana. This is one of the biggest projects I have worked on.

I am one of the co-curators of this exhibition. The purpose of this was to showcase how much treasure was in Indiana that often goes unnoticed. So I banded together with The Anderson Museum of Art to bring this to life. Their only demand was that Rosebuds had to be one of the three main features.

You can’t have a museum exhibition about Indiana cartoonists and not feature Jim Davis and Garfield. They’re the hometown heroes of the funny pages. Garfield is canonically from Muncie, Indiana. Jim was ecstatic to be a part of this, and working with him and Paramount was incredible.

Charles Schulz’s legacy with Indiana can’t be understated. He had an honorary doctorate from Anderson University and created “Young Pillars” for their Youth magazine and would give Anderson, Indiana several shoutouts in Peanuts. Deep love to CMSM and AU for helping us uncover rare art.

The exhibition features cartoonists new and old (divided into “Fresh Ink” and “Dried Ink” galleries) and showcases just how deep the inkwell bottle goes for Indiana’s cartoonists collective. The crazy thing is this isn’t even everyone. This is just what we were able to fit into this exhibition.
