Yes, there are shots for rabies. But there is no shot for getting mauled to death by a rabid animal.

There is a rabies vaccination for cats, yes. So keep them indoors and keep all their vaccinations up to date. (There are lethal diseases for which there are no vaccines, like FIV, avian flu, and very rare but not impossible: bubonic plague. Certain countries have FIV vaccines but the US doesn't.)
