He's telling his attorney general, as he tells all his staff, to break the law. Pam Bondi broke the law for him. His next AG will do the same. As will the one after that.

I think the statement is " trump is asking his attorney general to do the illegal", is more accurate.

criminal acts are illegal, but not all illegal acts are criminal. It's not a defect, it's a feature. Like calling a politician liar (UK), what is legal or illegal is open to interpretation. Ex: war vs military operation. Bondi didn't have any issues with illegality, but had with criminality.

The next AG will see the sword dangling over their head and will work diligently to blame all failures on subordinates tasked with impossible assignments. They will fire those subordinates quickly and brutally to show Trump just how loyal they are. If Trump allows it, Pirro might soon be gone.
