Robert Dussey, Togo’s foreign affairs minister, said the resolution was sponsored by Togo and backed by countries including the African Union’s 54 other member states. Maps should be accurate, doesn’t seem like a radical position to me. It’s amazing that we’re still using in accurate ones.

Shouldn't really been seen as '...doing Africa justice' though. Just show reality. Its 2026 the old projections aren't needed anymore, as far as I understand at least.

The Mercator projection was designed to preserve 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, not 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘢. Africa is approx 14 times the size of Greenland; the familiar image suggests parity because navigational utility escaped its original department. The Office supports retiring it from duties for which it was never qualified.
