Samhain marked the beginning of the Celtic winter; also the 'New Year'. A time of death & rebirth, it was an important festival. Now divided into Halloween, bonfire night & Remembrance Sunday, but originally it was a far more powerful festival dealing with death & rebirth. Fire burns away dross!

It's longer than a month. I've seen advertisements as early as July for one night in October. It's capitalism.

There’s also overlap with the Remembrance season, which starts on 1 Jan and ends on 31 Dec, with a peak spanning the whole of October and November.
