Dear Urbanites, When you’re out of the city, cell service might be sporadic/non-existent. It could take 30+ min for an ambulance to reach you. You are responsible for yourself, make good choices.

We retired in 2014 from a major city to a resort area 30 miles ( less than 20 miles as the crow flies) from a city of over 200k. We knew that we had lousy reception from the major cell carriers. The “local” land line carrier would not provide service. So, we put in a dish.

Keep in mind that a dish requires power. Lose power, loseyour phone dish. We have a small generator to use for extended power outages, but our working plan is drive to cell availability in a short term emergency.
