The PLOT DOC, MD🩺📝✍️

Creatives, don’t just make up medical nonsense for your story. 15% of your audience works in healthcare. Unrealistic portrayals make your characters and story lose credibility… AND can cause real life harm to any real life people who believe it #writing #filmsky #scriptsky #booksky #screenwriting

In this NEJM study AI TRIPLED the cost of medical care by ordering unnecessary tests We’re firing people and contributing to burnout on the false promises of AI In a litigious country with few protections for doctors, apparently theres still room for defensive medicine ai.nejm.org/doi/full/10....

Pro Tip: If you’re riding in the car with others, a strong knowledge of local water treatment plants can help with planning strategic concealment of conspicuous body emissions

Like many of you, I’m a fan of #reacher and #neagley, but some dubious medical choices If you have someone barely conscious from bleeding out, giving them a sedative (“truth serum”) like diazepam/valium could lower their blood pressure even more To zero Oops, now theyre dead #writing #scriptsky

How do people react to active wounds in real life vs on screen? \/ #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

Mumps classically causes testicular swelling. This outbreak in a collegiate football team is yet another reminder why we shouldnt be boasting about who has the biggest balls. Not awesome.

A young (28yo) researcher in Russia purportedly died within 4 DAYS of being exposed to aerosolized plague. Pneumonic/airborne plague (rather than bubonic from fleas) is highly contagious and rapidly fatal after exposure. Hope it’s contained. Not a fun way to die. link.axios.com/click/477795...

Quick Shot: BLEEDING CONTROL The most important thing your characters (and YOU) can do for bleeding is apply direct pressure. Gauze/towels will soak up blood. Pressure will stop it. Apply a ton of pressure to that gunshot wound to the abdomen, then get to the ER #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

Bad Trope: TASERS Tasers should NOT make your character unconscious. The electric shock makes muscles contract. If your character is unconscious, they likely had a dangerous heart rhythm or fell so hard they have a brain bleed. #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

A “Top Doctor” list does not exist. It is a marketing ploy I get spam about constantly. Docs aren’t graded on patient outcomes or Yelp reviews. They pay to get their name on a list. America’s real Top Doctors are working for Planned Parenthood and County Clinics, not Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery

Being Pro Choice means I would never want my kids to terminate a pregnancy, but I would be so tearfully grateful if their friends trusted me enough to ask me for a ride to the clinic and so tearfully grateful if their parents took mine. No questions asked. I’m Pro Choices #prochoice

Quick Shot: VOMITING If you want to add an extra ick factor to your scene, your character could start vomiting black material Blood digested in the stomach will look like the leftover coffee grounds. Gives a different chilling vibe than bright red blood Gross #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

It’s 100% humidity outside but somehow the air is still distinctly separate from the ocean, which is also 100% liquid

Maybe one day we’ll have an actual name for the day we still refer to only by its date. #neverforget

Had 4 patients in the ER simultaneously with intractable vomiting from GLP1s. 3 needed admission.

I know this is a medicine account, but for all you super nerds here is a physicist explaining how the Picard Maneuver is actually even more brilliant than Starfleet Academy would have you realize arstechnica.com/science/2026...

I don’t want to poke at anyone’s medical woes, but just a reminder Fetterman was a Democrat and it literally took brain damage to turn him into a Trump supporter www.npr.org/2026/09/09/n...

Donnie Darko will have a theatrical re-release this year! collider.com/jake-gyllenh...

For the first time in YEARS, I admitted two patients to the hospital with COVID in the same shift. Make good choices

“They slowed their heart rate down to 1 beat per minute to appear dead” is just sloppy writing. 1 beat is not enough to keep the brain alive. 1 beat means zero beats about a minute later. #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

Please be honest when grandma ends up in the ER after she accidentally gets into your “special” brownies

Quick Shot: LOUD NOISES After acoustic trauma, high dose steroids might help prevent long term hearing damage.

Quick Shot: BLOODY TOENAIL Want your character to look bad@$$? If they have a big collection of blood under their toenail, they can heat a paperclip and slowly burn a hole in the top to drain the blood and relieve the pressure. (caution: don’t try this at home, kids) #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

Archery Feat xkcd.com/3288/

Can confirm: Full Moon causes crazy shenanigans in the ER - Blood Moon opens a portal to an evil hell dimension #medsky #em #er #thepitt

Quick Shot: AIRWAY BURNS Smoking crack, swallowing a blunt, or eating super hot microwaved hot fudge when youre high can cause life-threatening airway swelling (epiglottitis) For some added drama, this might take an hour or so for the swelling to worsen (it might need a crich) #writing #scriptsky

Quick Shot: EAR DRUMS - Ruptured eardrums often heal on their own. - We often start antibiotic drops to prevent infections. - DON’T use Q-Tips. - Barotrauma/diving injuries can cause dizziness, so don’t go under water! #writing #scriptsky

Friendly reminder that any part of your body can need stitches …ANY part Make good choices!

As someone whose job doesn’t magically stop when the sun goes down, I really hate when the calendar turns to Friday

Weird Diagnosis: Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome Intractable nausea and vomiting associated with daily weed smoking Improved by hot showers/hot tub Sometimes leads to abdominal burns from hot pads #writing #scriptsky

This is the only Data Center I want in my life

I love me some Bear Grulls But dude, if Man vs Wild was real life, Wild would have totally won almost every episode

Trees are cool

Quick Shot: URINE In a survival situation: do NOT drink your urine. It is highly concentrated and full of waste products that will likely hasten your demise #writing #scriptsky #gamedev

This punishment is unusual and cruel

Dear Urbanites, When you’re out of the city, cell service might be sporadic/non-existent. It could take 30+ min for an ambulance to reach you. You are responsible for yourself, make good choices.
