RIP the legendary Drew Struzan (1947-2025) 😩 Even though we were expecting the news any day now, it makes me very sad. What an artist.

Steven Spielberg: "You have so well crystalized, memorialized our movies in this great still poster art we've all been blessed with over the years. From Star Wars to Indiana Jones, you have been so much a part of how our films are represented to the world based on your snapshot and vision of..."

"...what those movies have meant to you, and how, as an artist, you're able to transfer that brilliantly into amazing collective compositions with color and style. Your art is your art. Nobody has ever done anything before the way you do."

slashfilm.comDrew Struzan, The Greatest Movie Poster Artist Of All Time, Has Died At 78 - SlashFilmDrew Struzan, a titan in the world of illustration and movie poster art, has passed away. If you have a favorite movie poster, he's probably responsible for it.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the documentary Drew: The Man Behind The Poster is really good. Very sweet and heartwarming. I don’t know if it’s on any other streaming platform, but there seems to be at least one copy of it on YouTube now.

I had never realised a single person was responsible for all these posters. I just assumed that was a style shared by many poster artists in the industry. My mind is blown.

Rest in peace! His work is truly amazing, inseparable from the movies that employed him and their time. Movie posters don’t have the same impact anymore: I went to see Tron Ares this Sunday and there was not even a poster of the movie in the theater.
