For #BBCMicro fans, the mode 7 teletext Acornsoft loading screen is iconic So I've been adding customised versions to some of my more sophisticated Elite hacks That's better - I should have done this ages ago! See elite.bbcelite.com/hacks/ for more hacking goodness #retrocomputing #acorn

A fabulous game. I've still got the copy I played as a kid.

Elite was brilliant 👏. A ridiculous percentage of my mid-teenage life was spent playing this, and "Revs".

Crammond possibly had the same level of influence on simcade that Braben and Bell had on space games.

It’s the longest running sci-fi video game franchise in history.

If you have the time, here’s a fascinating look at how it was coded. youtu.be/lC4YLMLar5I?...

Francis Spufford's Backroom Boys devotes a chapter to the creation of the game.

Such an excellent game. Used to play this on an old ZX Spectrum endlessly when I was a kid. Cobra, missiles and mining lasers - the perfect setup. 🚀👨‍🚀

I had a joystick (Kempston?) that wasn't set pointing forward, so you could turn it around and it'd be right for the rear view mining laser Ridiculously stupid fun Then I was playing at my cousins and he got tribbles, we didn't get the missions :-(

I’ve been playing Elite Dangerous on the PC. Back in the Before Times I can claim to have played the original Elite on an actual BBC Micro!
