Hello, new followers!! I'm Theo, a freelance #gamedev narrative designer and game writer. I also write for TV, film, TTRPGs, and various IPs, mainly horror, sci-fi and dark fantasy. I have too many tattoos (inconceivable) and not enough cats (not possible). Currently looking for new projects :)

Considering their models are open sourced and free to use, and the first AI generated movie has flopped at the cinemas, it's the canary in the coal mine for everyone else. Expect Western economies to fold as quickly as AI stocks will.

Whenever I see 'dramaturg' I automatically read 'dramaturd' and think about a shite that's throwing a tantrum being flushed down the pan.

Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Mass Effect was my ultimate white whale, my all-time dream project. For the last couple years I'd been in discussion w/ BioWare & EA to take on the project & as part of that I wrote close to 20 minutes of music to explore where the franchise can go next, may as well share it!

I mean this from a corporate sense, I don’t want to see 100,000+ people out of work but fuck me, does this company deserve to exist the way it’s treated employees across every division, including games, going forward? Bin all the execs making these decisions and give their salaries to the workforce.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

One of the most insightful comments about game development came from a former boss. He said “Making a game is like starting a band. You can’t throw money at a new studio with random AAA veterans and expect it to crank out a hit.” 🧵

I’d rather read a terrible human novel than an AI book because at least the writer gave it their best shot themselves.

theguardian.com‘It’s magic’: scientists rediscover how to make ancient Roman colour-changing glassExclusive: Optical engineering that went into 1,600-year-old Lycurgus Cup has baffled experts for centuries The Romans’ proficiency in the art of glass-making has produced some of the wonders of antiquity, but few of their creations better a 1,600-year-old masterpiece which sits in the British Museum. Depending on where a light source is positioned, the Lycurgus Cup changes colour, from jade green under normal lighting to ruby red when lit from behind – an astonishing feat of optical engineering that has confounded historians and glass-makers for centuries. You can tell a lot about someone’s regard for creativity when they view it all as “content”. Video games are just “content” now, apparently.

Mike Flanagan is having a moment. Clayface was brilliant.

Theo Beastly@theopriestley.net

Seeing Clayface in a couple of hours and I think I prefer seeing villains have their own story and standalone film rather than competing for time inside a hero movie. Will see how this pans out.
