The Lowell Sun publishing reports of ICE being in town under the headline "ICE, ICE, Baby" is SO cringe. That track is 30 years old, and the situation isn't fucking funny. It's like anybody with any power or voice in this city is laughing at its residents 24/7. www.lowellsun.com/2025/03/30/t...

lowellsun.comThe Column: ICE, ICE, babyIMMIGRATION AND Customs Enforcement agents rolled into the Mill City on March 19 in an armored tactical vehicle accompanied by armed agents decked out in camouflage uniforms sporting balaclavas.

I was actually pleasantly shocked to hear them talk at all about the botched raid at Canal Place. I wouldn't have clicked it at all if it weren't for that effing headline (expecting the worst). Not sure how I feel about that.

I have so many feelings about that in general. ICE had the wrong building and someone let them in anyway? And were directed specifically at CP3 instead of nebulously "not here?" Resistance does not have to be big. You can just be dumb and unhelpful or give bad directions.

A (genuine and serious) piece of advice I have for surviving in this media environment so headlines are not the make or break thing is to use an RSS reader. Inoreader is good, website and app, can set up custom alerts and filtering. It helps, HUGELY, to keep tabs on things.

You can also follow reddit etc communities with it. Our information stream is so, so seriously polluted. This is the best way I've found to stay aware without also going insane.

Though Insane is...malleable, definitionally - you get a much better feel for how our paper's reporting resources are spent covering high school and college sports, grouted together with press releases from local cops and bottom of the barrel AP fodder.

I've only heard bits of details from various folks. Given the time first thing in morning, I wonder if they went in when someone was leaving for work or something, vs being buzzed in. Not much detail has been shared on channels I'm on, leaves lots of questions.

I was wondering if they only terrorized the one person and bailed out upon realizing their mistake (and I'm guessing some attn), or if they tried the other bldgs. Hadn't heard more.

There are also the sweeps they did later that day of laborers on Worthen Street. They bailed after meeting questions and resistance from a group of people. They fold SO quickly - it's PR to them, and grist for the nazi news mill. They can't risk looking bad.

Years and years ago at the Boott I was pleasantly surprised to happen to witness someone work really hard not to let some sort of pair of intimidating guys (ICE, police, I have no idea who it was) into our bldg.
