To teach kids about using sources, my friend’s nephew did a project on coyotes but one of the books they got from amazon said coyotes are 23 feet long. Disclaimer at front of the book said author and publisher not responsible for errors “due to the changing nature of the internet”. It was an AI book

When I was a kid we weren't allowed to use ANY internet sources. None. No websites. Only books. But now when not even books are safe, I can't imagine how kids are supposed to get ANY sort of correct information on even the most basic of topics. This is serious.

Boy the hot takes of “But books have always said whatever they want” ain’t it. It’s so much worse now. So much worse. Media literacy and critical thinking should be part of the curriculum to offset the onslaught of misinformation. I’m child free by choice but I feel so bad for today’s kids

Well yes but.. a part of good media literacy is taking in account the source (author, their political engagement, their sources) rather than the medium (book, website). Yes, books had to be more financed and approved before being published, but they aren’t more trustworthy just because they’re books
