much anti-LLM arguing here is basically all the US users being mad at American capitalism but instead of yelling about American capitalism they yell about some other Glonzo they have made up in their head instead. most M-Ls here wouldn't know the best shot they've had if it slapped them in the face.

I also think the way some people's response to the idea of transformative use changes when their work is what's being used transformatively is... Revealing.

Do I think the largest companies on earth deserve to get all of the wealth from a thing whose value is derived from the creative work of humanity as a whole? No. Do I think model training is theft? Also no. These two beliefs do not actually conflict!

If certain people on here would take a step back for a second and realize that “it’s okay that I use your work (transformatively, I assert) because it has no economic value (to me)” is not a winning argument that would be a step forward

...I mean I don't actually think a work having or not having a certain level of economic value changes the okayness of transformative use of that work? In either direction.

It seems like you're subskeeting something in particular and I hope it's not me because I've clearly miscommunicated some fundamental aspects of my beliefs if it is. Or I don't understand what you're talking about, which sometimes happens.

Has someone been saying that Anthropic shouldn't have had to pay out for pirating all the books to begin with in Bartz v. Anthropic or something?
