increasingly it seems like the only real answer to this is to find ways of ensuring guaranteed income for people. imo we are reaching a point where people who want to build or do things will be able to - unrestrained by skills - and there will be a lot of people who will no longer need to work

Btw, even among pro AI friends, this concern is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Devs wondering how we get senior devs if the ecosystem for junior devs goes away. Doctors talking about not needing interns. Lawyers not needing paralegals. There's an ecological aspect to this and we need a plan.

I think this is necessary, but not sufficient. Everyone needs purpose, but a lot of people also need to be told what to do. People complain about work but I think being expected to show up somewhere, somehow, for someone is a good thing for the psyche and soul, even if it sucks a bunch of the time.

Scarcity kind of lets us shortcut that, because you have to show up for yourself, and if you have dependents you might be showing up for them too. It does bad things to people when they really don't need to show up for anyone.
