How many hours have been wasted searching for a portable shell scripting language?

Idk, nushell is pretty portable? And if you use mise for installing tools, I think you’d get very far indeed What might you be missing? Nushell is lacking some shell features like native backgrounding, but I find I don’t really care

By now, nushell wraps most of the coreutils so you don’t have to fiddle with escaping and switches etc etc any more `ls dir -l` (switch after argument) works on EVERY platform because this is a nushell wrapper you’re invoking

Yes, the pueued stuff seems to have become built in. I used it happily before it became built in. But my environment changed and I don’t need it any more 🤷🏼

Not just the shell, but shell + utilities. Strong typing too with something akin to a language server protocol for commands please so that shell completions can be data-driven and informed.

I doubt we'll get that in our lifetimes. It would be awesome, but so many have tried and failed. Nushell is fantastic, but I don't think it'll ever become portable in the sense you can rely on it being installed. I really hope I'm wrong though 🙂
