p sure folk here will hate this, but i think that open models above a certain strength (Mythos level??) should indeed be restricted access below that threshold i’m all in on open models, but above leads to some serious social risks idk maybe i’ll think different after significant diffusion

i’m just advocating for requiring that it’s possible to cut off access, and only if it’s above a certain strength by the way, if you’re using non-local models you’re probably already subject to this

yeah, not trying to decide that here we have similar regulations, like if you buy a certain combo of chemicals from the same store, the police are called what i’m suggesting isn’t crazy at all. like you even have to get a permit to build your own building on your own land

i would use another example other than "needing a permit to build a building on your own land" since with that the end result of that has been the economic disempowerment of tens of millions of people unable to comfortably afford habitation (lawfare, community input, an arbiter of what is allowed)

lol okay fine. but the point is we put *a lot* of regulations in place, to great success some, like guns, even infringe on rights (in America).

I would agree with safetyist arguments that AGI/ASI is a whole different type of thing compared to technologies before but i'd go in the exact opposite direction of "this means there must be no party that's privileged above the other in access to it"

AGI/ASI that can be expanded at will and molded into matching your desired ideological predilections is something that can observe what someone is doing *and plan around them, nullify their achievement of their objective. Unequal access means one side can always be made to lose, regardless of intent
