I've seen a few change their minds about capabilities after learning the details of the recent maths breakthroughs. Google AI Overview has a lot to answer for.

I find that even very skeptical friends respond reasonably well to my first-person narrative experiences where AI solved a real problem that would otherwise have been impossible for me. Especially if I note my own discomfort or uncertainties. Trying to tell them they're wrong...doesn't work.

i think i may have softened an anti ai opinion some yesterday through honest careful de-escalating conversation and they seemed to process and absorb people are willing to listen if you listen to them as well

this is what I have found in my history circles too! it's on us to reach them cuz ed will fill any and all available space if we dont

“Do your own research” people don’t change their minds. Not about vaccines, not 5G, not AI. Presented with evidence that the whole “AI uses a lot of water” was Karen Hao not knowing metric system and mixing up liters and cubic meters, these people say “small discrepancies don’t matter”.
