“We only use AI for X” is becomming more common, but “search” there belies “we are bad at organizational knowledge,” “code” is “we don’t care about performant/maintainable code,” etc. It’s just not useful except when you 1) have undertrained staff and don’t want them to learn, or 2) do not care

I'll be honest, there is nothing more demoralizing to me than devs saying "I know AI is built on theft, and anti-labour, and harms the environment, but I'm going to use it anyway bc I don't believe individual choices matter". This is how a movement fails. www.molleindustria.org/blog/future-...

The reason this stuff is acceptable in other applications is that people *already don’t give a shit about MS Word*. We expect enterprise-grade software to suck. People get mad when games are slow and shitty and boring. But the slide started with licensed engines, DLSS, “fuck it” hardware.

I just don’t think people using AI will make truly powerful games, period. Caring about craft always improves the thing. My main fear is that there are always a million interesting games in the weeds, never breaking through, because Steam/etc. is bad at promotion. And AI has made that worse.
