TODAY IN CANADA: On today's date in 1841, Queen's University in Kingston received its royal charter. Oddly, the charter required the college stay within three miles of a specific Presbyterian church. 🎓️ YOUR SAY: Should post-secondary education be paid for by the government?

Wait. What? That college needed to stay within that 3 mile radius? What were the situations back in the day that a uni needed to be that close to a church? ? Illiterate public? Churches literate so ties with education/colleges?

I think funding for education should be shared by corporations and government. Let those who benefit from an educated work force pay for it.

I wouldn't agree to fully paid for but would agree to a split. There use to be (maybe still is) an option to join the military & the armed forces would help pay for your education while you put in time training. I always thought this was a win win but haven't seen any ads in like forever.

Yes!!! An educated populace is an asset to society. Also I’d like to see us offer healthcare education tied to working in a rural or remote location for a number of years.

Post secondary education should be paid for by the government but only within 3 miles of a specific Presbyterian church.

Not entirely paid by the government. People value things they sacrifice for. If something is free, it isn't appreciated enough and gets abandoned easily. Students should be paying a nominal amount... $2k per year? That said, I will argue against myself. I did not have to pay for my education...

As my education was paid by a combination of government (being orphaned at a young age), bursary (for in-need students in my field... Thank you J.P. Bickel), and scholarship. My graduate degrees were sponsored by my employer. Now I mentor and volunteer.

It is a national guarantee through high school as that was once the objective. Times have moved on. There is more to learn but quality of teaching in US has declined. Parent committees whether official or not now influence what is taught. right wing loonies like in TX crush competency nationally.
