⚠️ A NOTE ABOUT ITCH.IO ⚠️ Dear #GameDev: I'm not going to pretend I know all the details, or that I should be considered an expert, but we need to talk about this situation. 🧵 P.S. - Jump to the end of the thread for what you personally can do to help address the situation.

I feel like whatever's next for people creating art, content, etc. we gotta hold those companies responsible and make sure it's in their policies not to just wipe things off of the internet because of some extremist group. I'm tired of having to hop around and I know others are too.

Of course it can, but they’ll be susceptible to the same payment processors regardless of where they’re located. Collective Shout is based in Australia and is already pressuring the payment processors to come down on companies globally.

I doubt complaint on the phone is going to help. Maybe it's time game dev community needs to use crypto instead of blaming it as a get rich quick or fall into scam. It is INVENTED to try bypassing old banks, etc. Remind: if a call works, Trump will not be president.

Corp accountant here, Investor Relations is the team that is legally obligated to handle investor concerns. If you have a fund with MC or Visa in it, I suggest calling and demanding to know what your compensation will be for the reduction in Earnings Per Share caused by cutting off income streams (:

If you're unaware of what's happening, Itch.io has deindexed NSFW and LGBT+ content from their website. It's being reported that they're deleting some projects, shadowbanning others, and withholding payouts from NSFW and LGBT creators. See the linked article for their explanation of the situation.

itch.ioUpdate on NSFW contentWe have “deindexed” all adult NSFW content from our browse and search pages. We understand this action is sudden and disruptive, and we are truly sorry for the frustration and confusion caused by...

Is there any legitimate evidence that they're deindexing LGBT content that isn't NSFW? They've also denied withholding payouts solely for this, and they've offered help to anyone who seems to be affected by it. It's really irresponsible to make these kinds of claims on a platform as big as this.

I’ve been sent screenshots that indicate it’s all real, but I haven’t independently verified anything. That’s why I said it’s being reported, and not that it’s definitely happening. I get the confusion, tho. Sorry I wasn’t more clear.

Sorry, mate. I'm trying to find out if any of those claims are true, but I'm yet to find a positive one. First time I saw these reports got me really mad, but they don't seem to be true. This fire doesn't need more fuel. 🙏

Why is this important? Itch.io has been a bastion for "non-traditional" games for years now. Porn, furry, kink, queer... as long as they're not harmful, pretty much anything has been allowed.

Whether you personally enjoy these games or not is irrelevant. They deserve to be made by those who enjoy making them, and they deserve a platform where they can find an audience. Itch.io has been that platform, and it was decimated overnight.

Where does the blame lie? The foremost agitator is an organization known as "Collective Shout." They're an anti-porn TERF group lobbying to remove games from the internet if they violate the "traditional" values.
