I saw a few adaptations when I was younger, and I think I didn’t know enough to understand the stakes Mrs Bennet is working with, and I’m not convinced the book does either.

Huh. Elizabeth really is the mold in which every Not Like Other Girls sort of heroine is cast. She’s definitely pretty, but only a normal amount of pretty—surely not as pretty as her very pretty big sister—but who cares because she’s so smart, so so smart, which is why she’s dad’s favorite.

AH never mind. They just went to a dance, and Elizabeth literally tells her sister, “You’re five times hotter than any girl here, and you’ve liked stupider men.” I’m in. I’m here for her.

I think Elizabeth is growing on me simply because these two old ladies are being so mean about her WALKING to see her sick sister!!! “Conceited independence,” holy shit go jump in a lake, aunties.

Okay so Jane Austen is making me retroactively like a bunch of these characters I originally found annoying by simply surrounding them with actual demons. Well done.

I like that Charlotte Brontë was basically telling a soapy saga about how the world is a hard and complicated place and sometimes Shit Happens, and Jane Austen is just like, “I’ve met the worst and simultaneously most boring people you can imagine. Hunker down, let me tell you all about them.”

I’ve barely touched on Jane and Bingley because they’re just two hot people who straightforwardly like each other, and I’m sure these crazy kids will be fine. It turns out, though, that firmly believe that Mrs Bennet should have a gun.

Oh I fully blew past Mrs Bennet conspiring to get her daughter a touch of the cold to stay at Netherfield with Bingley lmao what a lady. No ruth at all.
