Who will win, Mayor Mamdani or billionaire Jeff Bezos? Despite Amazon controlling drivers’ uniforms, hours vehicles and routes, Amazon delivery drivers are classed as subcontractors, not employees. This allows Amazon to avoid liability for traffic accidents or worker injuries.

I feel citations coming on from Henry VIII's law on livery and private armies in a reverse logic sort of way. If you put on the Lord's Livery then his servant you become.

Mamdani is backing a new law that would force Amazon to directly employ their drivers. Amazon are fighting the law, spending over $5 million setting up a political campaigning group. In 2025 alone Amazon spent over $26 million to prevent their workers from unionising.
